Standing at an impressive 140cm tall the KEF Reference 5 Speakers is the culmination of a huge amount of research and development. Employing all the latest technology including KEF’s eleventh generation Uni-Q drivers, the Reference 5 floorstanders are the flagship speakers in the KEF Reference range, and offer food for thought for those in the market for a high end speaker upgrade.

As mentioned above the Reference 5 utilises the eleventh generation of KEF’s Uni-Q drivers, this drive unit is sandwiched in the middle of four 6.5 inch bass drivers. The bass drivers are placed as close as possible to the 125/25mm Uni-Q driver to reduce interference at the crossover point.

The KEF Reference 5 bass diaphragms are made using a shallow aluminium disc, giving the bass driver a lower profile, thus ensuring a minimal effect on the frequency response of the mid driver and tweeter. Behind this sits technology derived from the iconic KEF Blade, a large-diameter voice coil which is a vented coupler.

Four serious looking heavy-duty chromed speaker terminals sit at the bottom of the Reference 5's, enabling you to bi-wire if you wish, with ‘taps’ in between to make or break the internal links that allow for single wiring.

As you would expect the Reference 5 speakers are incredibly well built. Available in a selection of gloss finishes, further enhancing the KEF Reference 5 speaker’s luxury appeal. The cabinets are made using high density wood. Internally, the cabinet is comprehensively braced. All the drivers are braced by the internal structure but connected to it via damping material. All this sits on a heavy steel platforms with spikes.
