Like the KEF R5, the KEF R7 floorstanding speaker features twin bass drivers positioned above and below the Uni-Q array. However, the larger diameter of the bass drivers enables a higher sound level to be delivered and the larger cabinet affords a greater bass extension.

The new KEF R Series has been completely re-engineered from the ground up, with 1,043 changes undertaken during the design process, to further improve upon the performance, build and finish of original R Series speaker range. The new range features a 12th generation Uni-Q drive unit array and increased output, enabling the listener to enjoy increased volume levels, when partnered with a suitably equipped amplifier.

Our team attended the official U.K. launch of the new KEF R Series in September 2018, and are of the opinion that the new R Series models are a statement product in their own right. There are a few trickle down technology improvements taken from the Reference Series that have been applied to the KEF R7, enabling the performance bar to be raised.

Performance aside, the new models have greater visual appeal, with classy upgrades applied to the creation of the beautifully engineered speaker grill, outriggers to improve the stability, and trim rings that surround the speaker drive units. Consumer research was undertaken during the design process, forming the creation of the new KEF R Series. In fact, the only thing to remain the same is the name.
